Lutheran West unloaded on Oberlin last night, scoring 17 runs in the first inning en route to a 19-2 mercy-rule-shortened victory. With the win, Lutheran West advances to 9-5 on the season. Freshman Eric Dill (1-0) got the win, throwing three innings, striking out five and allowing two earned runs. Junior Ben Cruz threw the last two shutout innings, striking out four.
After an error to start the game, Lutheran West rattled off seven straight hits before a walk and a ground out ended the string. But the scoring didn’t end. LW mixed in five more hits—added to a walk, two hit by pitches, and a couple of errors and found itself up 17-0 with still one out.
Aaron Blaine (2 hits, 4 RBI), Eddie Ramos (2 hits, double), Dill (2 hits, 3 RBIs) and Cruz (2 hits, 3 RBIs) led LW offensively.
West hosts Lorain on Monday and plays at home as well on Tuesday (Medina Christian) and Friday (Open Door). LW travels to Keystone for the marquee matchup of the week on Wednesday.
