The Longhorns Track & Field team made up for missing the entire 2020 season by earning wins by both the ladies and the gentlemen at the home opener on March 30, 2021. Both teams out-competed Clearview and Lutheran East with the ladies scoring 66 points and the gentlemen scoring 83 points.
The meet was filled with huge accomplishments including 20 new personal best performances by the ladies and 35 by the gentlemen. On top of all that, Junior Evelyn Albers broke the High Jump record held by her coach, Joy Ellerbruch (Thielo), set in 1988 and tied again in 2005 by Bethany Kastner. The new record now stands at 5’4″.
First place finishes were earned by the 4x800m team of Luke Donahue, Jimmy Loder, Elijah Van Farowe and Tyler DeSimpelare, Elijah Van Farowe (1600m), Tyler DeSimpelare (800m), the 4x400m team of Manny Diaz, Josiah McNair, Zach Kuhrt and Alexander Vangelos, Jack Jedick (Shot Put & Discus), Gabe Agui (HJ & LJ), Madi Kiraly (1600m & 800m), Madison Groppe (300m Hurdles), Bethany Montie (Shot Put & Discus) and Evelyn Albers (HJ & LJ).
The team travels to Gilmour Academy on Wednesday, April 7th for a tri meet along with Orange High School.
