Thrasivoulou attended high school at Valley Lutheran High School in Phoenix, AZ where she won a state championship in volleyball. She earned a full scholarship to Phoenix College (NJCAA) and was a two-time conference honorable mention award winner at the middle blocker position. Her efforts earned her an opportunity to attend the University of Oregon (NCAA DI) to continue her education and volleyball career. After one year at Oregon, Thrasivoulou finished up her NCAA eligibility at Purdue University (NCAA DI).
Thrasivoulou says:
“I am super excited to be a part of the Lutheran West family! Since I also went to a Lutheran high school, I feel like everything has gone full circle and I’m right where I need to be. Thank you to Athletic Director Ryan Miller and Principal Mike Waugh for the opportunity to grow the volleyball program at Lutheran West and advance it to new heights.”
Ryan Miller, Athletic Director, says:
“We are extremely excited for Laura to take over our volleyball program. Her student-athlete background at Phoenix College, the University of Oregon, and Purdue University will be an asset in drawing on different experiences at very competitive levels of the sport. She has been an assistant at the high school level in our local area for 11 years and she is certainly ready to run her own program. Laura’s commitment to building a ‘Culture of Excellence’ defined by servant leadership, effort, positivity through adversity, and relationship building are fully in tune with what we are striving to build at Lutheran West in all our programs.”
Lutheran West has retained Coach Bethany Weisenseel on staff and will be announcing additional staff hires in the coming weeks.
Lutheran West Volleyball will open its 2021 season this fall, with the schedule to be released this summer.
