The Cross Country team achieved major success at the 51st Annual Tiffin Cross Country Carnival with 14 of the 17 runners setting lifetime best times over the 5k (3.1 mile) distance. The course and weather conditions were perfect and the team took full advantage of the opportunity. The team walked away from the finish line with smiles on their faces and a great feeling of accomplishment. Among those who set new personal records (PRs) was Senior Paris Mather. Mather ran 20:56.6 which now makes her the 9th fastest XC lady runner in school history.
Coach Anjanette Whitman pointed out that, “Competing at Tiffin isn’t about winning, it’s about raising the bar for the team. We could compete in an smaller meet with average competition, but these athletes are willing to take on the best teams in the State of Ohio with the goal of improving themselves both individually and as a team. Having this many PRs doesn’t happen by accident, it’s because of their hard work and willingness to exert effort beyond their comfort zones. We are very proud of the outcome and look forward to what the next few weeks bring.”
The team competes next at the VASJ McDonough Invite at Forest Hills Park in Cleveland Heights on Saturday, September 16th.
